Independent Education Evaluations (IEEs)

BEAS provides pediatric speech-language evaluations and assessments services for children ages birth through elementary school age. The terms "evaluation" and "assessment" are often used interchangeably, but they have distinct technical definitions.
An evaluation isa comprehensive process used to diagnose a disorder and determine eligibility for services. Tools used include standardized, norm-referenced tests, in-depth interviews, observations, and formal protocols. The end result is a summative report providing diagnostic conclusions.

An assessment is a flexible, often ongoing process used to identify strengths & weaknesses, measure progress over time, and identify functional needs to guide treatment. Tools used include informal measures (e.g. language sampling, play-based activities), naturalistic observations, and review of progress period data. The end result are adjustments to targeted goals and intervention strategies.
BEAS specializes in comprehensive speech and language evaluations for Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) designed to uncover the specific nuances of a child's communication, literacy, and social skill development. By obtaining an SLP evaluation from BEAS, parent/caregivers: gain sophisticated insights and understanding of how their child's unique profile impacts their academic and social life and are equipped with necessary data to secure the right services and support for their child.

An Independent Education Evaluation (IEE) is an assessment conducted by qualified professionals (e.g. psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, special education professionals) who are not employed by your child's school district. When a parent/caregiver disagrees with the school district's assessment, they can request an IEE be at public expense. It provides an objective second opinion to identify specific needs for appropriate educational services. For children with speech and language challenges, an IEE by a highly trained speech-language pathologist (SLP) can help understand and address the child's communication needs.
